Mentor Programs

2018 Weldon Mentor Program: Living the Weldon Tradition, Building the Community

Welcome to the Weldon Mentor Program, Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University

The Weldon Mentor Program provides students with the opportunity to gain valuable insight into the legal profession through meeting one-on-one with alumni. The program is designed as a system of support and guidance aimed at helping students connect with alumni, who see the value of mentoring, and want to share their experience and insight with current students and recent graduates. The program is not designed or intended to focus on employment opportunities.

For a successful and productive mentoring relationship it is important for the mentor and mentee to have a common view of their roles and understand how to get the most out of the experience. Please review and consider the following prior to indicating agreement.

Commitment

  • This relationship will last eight months and is structured with a beginning and an end.
  • You are encouraged to meet at least four times (once every two months).
  • Meetings can be conducted in person, via webcam/skype, or by phone. Please note: in person is preferred where/when possible.
  • If mentor and mentee wish to meet more than the minimum number of times during the program that is acceptable but not required.
  • After the program, there is no requirement for the mentor and mentee to meet; however, if both parties agree, the mentoring relationship can continue.
Please note: the mentee is responsible for driving the mentoring relationship. Once matched with a mentor, the mentee will contact the mentor to set a time to meet.
